Sin city has its share of troubles, and scratched glass is among them.
Only days before the grand opening of Las Vegas' Wynn Casino, one of the retail shops had some very large pieces of scratched glass in its display windows. The shop needed the problem solved immediately and heard that GlasWeld would fly in a crew to handle the job.
Because the GlasWeld research team was already on another consulting project, we referred the job to our customer in the area, Stephen Nieri. Nieri found that the scratches were between six and nine feet long, on plate glass that measured 10x17 feet. Not only were the scratches very long, but the scratched area was 2-3 inches wide with multiple scratches, the perfect project for GlasWeld's Gforce™ Glass Scratch Removal Kit.
Repair was the only option for this glass. The building doors were not large enough to accommodate bringing in replacement pieces without tearing apart the storefront, which would take too long, and the replacement cost was very expensive.
We found that the glass, which is about one inch thick, was called Starphire, a tempered, extra hard, and high iron content glass. This glass has no color and is optically very clear. We suggested that Neiri use our new compound formulation and some new disks, which allowed him to expand his working area to 9-10 inches.
Everyone involved was thrilled with the result. And while Neiri was working on this job, two more retailers in the Wynn Casino came to him to remove their own glass damage. This is just one example of the scratch removal opportunities that you can access with GlasWeld's Gforce Kit.
