Best Scratch Remover Tips from Our Technicians
October 25th, 2011
GlasWeld is known in the industry for offering some of the best training and best scratch remover products. And it’s not by accident. Our window scratch repair product managers also serve as technicians, so they have real-world experience in repairing the most common and the most unique types of window and door damage. Here we share their tips with you, so you can better identify and assess the glass damage you’re dealing with and get started quickly:
- Superficial glass scratches can occur naturally from standard cleaning and maintenance. Damage is undetectable by touch and can be repaired quickly with our Gforce scratch removal systems.
- Surface glass scratches can also occur naturally but are most often caused by harsh abrasives. Concrete, razor blades, sandpaper from construction debris or glass o
n glass rubs can all contribute to this type of damage. As a technician, you will be able to feel the scratch with your fingernail, but your nail will not catch. Proceed by either polishing, or by lightly abrading the glass. GlasWeld’s Gforce polishing process accomplishes window glass repair without distortion.
- Sub-surface glass scratches usually occur when very abrasive materials are used with substantial force. Examples include: graffiti (using a scribe), acid graffiti, welding, and grinding splatter. As a technician, you will be able to see the damage at distances greater than 10 feet, and the damage will definitely catch your fingernail.
The best scratch remover is resurfacing (or abrading) the glass and remembering to feather the damage, so distortion isn’t visible.
