About GlasWeld

The history of GlasWeld is tied up in the very history of windshield repair itself. The industry first began to gather momentum in the early 1970s, when Novus, Inc. licensed one of the first systems that was capable of optically matching glass.

Hap Alexander, a Novus licensee, was trained early on in the new art of glass repair. He saw ways to improve the methods and equipment, and developed proprietary products to advance glass repair quality. He began performing glass repairs with his new system in 1978. Five years later, he founded GlasWeld, along with his son, Von Alexander, and his son-in-law, Thomas Spoo. The company quickly became an industry leader through its extensive research and development in the field of glass repair.

In 1986, GlasWeld developed the industry’s first tinted resin for auto glass repair. Tinted resins allowed windshield repair technicians to have better results when repairing certain types of damage. For example, GlasWeld’s gray-tinted resin was developed for repairing star breaks, because its color hides the reflectivity of this kind of break.

Over the years, GlasWeld has continually worked to develop the very best equipment available on the market. In 2002, the company patented the ProVac™ 2000, a technologically advanced resin injector that improved repair accuracy, control and speed. The ProCur™ lamp was patented in 2004. This unique lamp provides a 360° radial cure pattern on the injected resin, which results in stronger, better-looking repairs and a faster repair time.

In 2003, GlasWeld expanded its offering in glass repair by developing a system that removed scratches on glass surfaces. GlasWeld’s G Force Scratch Removal System removes even deep scratches from nearly all types of glass. Through independent testing, the G Force system was proven to remove scratches with no distortion.

Over the course of more than 20 years, GlasWeld has recognized the need for a comprehensive approach to windshield repair. This need has been—and continues to be—addressed through the development of equipment that meets or exceeds all industry recommended and required specifications. Finally, GlasWeld has assembled a comprehensive training program that is unequaled anywhere.

From its three areas of expertise…equipment, materials, and training…GlasWeld is now an international leader in the glass repair industry. Today, GlasWeld has representation in more than 50 countries around the world, and boasts some of the glass industry’s top names on its client list.
